Nipun Dananjaya missed out on a hundred by eight runs and there were 50s from the bats of Lahiru Udara and Sahan Arachchige as Sri Lanka ‘A’ ended the first day of the second 4-day unofficial test against Australia ‘A’ on 330-9 at Hambantota yesterday.
Winning the toss and taking first lease of the wicket Sri Lanka ‘A’ lost Minod Bhanuka (7) and skipper Kamindu Mendis (14) to be 32-2, but recovered to 176-5 with Udara contributing a patient 63 off 133 balls (3 fours).
The main recovery was staged by the sixth wicket pair Dananjaya and Arachchige who put on 124 to see Sri Lanka ‘A’ past the 300-run mark. Dananjaya paced his innings out nicely to score 92 off 130 balls (4 fours) before edging a catch behind the wicket.
Arachchige went onto make 61 off 124 balls (3 fours) before being dismissed in the penultimate over of the day. Both batsmen fell to pacie Scott Boland who ended the day with four wickets sharing the spoils with his new ball partner Mark Steketee who had a similar haul.
The match continues on its second day today.
