Colombo Colts Cricket Club, the longest-standing Sri Lankan Cricket Club founded in 1873, held its 146th Annual General Meeting on 19 October at the Club Pavilion with the participation of a large

number of members.

Nishantha Ranatunga was re-elected President unanimously for the ensuing year 2019-20. Trevor Rajaratnam was re-elected Patron and Jagath Savanadasa and Tissa Abeywardena Vice Patrons. K. Mathivananam, Jagath Savanadasa and Tissa Abeywardena were also appointed trustees of the Club. Eastman Narangoda, Chaminda Vaas and K. Shakthidasan were elected Vice Presidents, Brigadier Shiran Abeysekera was elected General Secretary, M. Ratnaharan the Treasurer, Rajeev Munasinghe the Asst. General Secretary, Chandika Jayawardena the Asst. Treasurer and Dinesh Wickremanayake the Club Captain.

The other office bearers and committee members, including captains of sports, were also appointed for the ensuing year. Kusal Janith Perera was appointed the Cricket Captain of the Club, with Dias Muthukuda as the Billiards Captain, Nuwan Senevirathne the Men’s Hockey Captain, Anaka Boram the Women’s Hockey Captain and Shiromi Athukorala as Women’s Cricket Captain.

During the AGM, Club President Nishantha Ranatunga stated that the membership funds gathered would be utilised for the full-scale development program of the historic Club premises, which would be converted into a state-of-the-art sports facility including a modern gymnasium, swimming pool, streamlined dining and bar facilities, dressing rooms and much more, over the next few years.

The completion of the proposed development activities, segmented into five stages, is expected to coincide with the 150-year anniversary celebrations of the Club in 2023. The Club has already initiated the process of selecting a construction company and expects Stage One (of a 10-month duration) to commence at the end of this year.
