The North Central Province All-Island Open Badminton Championship is set to take place in Anuradhapura, from 19-25 August.
Organised by the North Central Province Badminton Association under the guidance of Sri Lanka Badminton, the championship will be held at the Sports Development Department Indoor Sports Complex and the Mike Cook Indoor Sports Complex.
The tournament will feature various categories, including open events for men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Additionally, there will be competitions for boys and girls under the age of 11 to 19, as well as events for men and women over 30, extending up to a combined age group of 110. Special events include plate competitions for men’s and women’s singles.
The opening ceremony and the preliminary rounds of the championship will be held on 19 August. From the second day, 20 August, action will continue with the preliminary matches, round of 16 as well as quarterfinals and semi-finals. The remaining semifinals, as well as the finals, will be held on 24 August, while the last day is reserved for several selected final matches and the closing ceremony.
Winners will be awarded a total of Rs. 750,000 in cash prizes along with trophies, medals, and certificates. The North Central Province All-Island Open Badminton Championship is sponsored by Mcfoil, Mobil, Li-Ning, 3M, and GAC.
Last year, Lochana de Silva claimed the men’s singles title, while Ranithma Liyanage won the women’s singles title.
