Northern Province’s sports facilities in Vavuniya vested with public

On the directive of Prime Minister and Sports Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Indoor Stadium and Swimming Pool of the Vavuniya District Sports Complex completed by the Department of Sports Development were vested with the sportsmen and sportswomen at a simple ceremony that preceded traditional religious blessings. Sports Director General Professor (Rear Admiral) Shemal Fernando and Vavuniya District Secretary P.A. Sarathchandra and the Government officials of Vavuniya were present at the occasion.

The fully fledged Indoor Stadium had been completed to cater to all indoor games such as Volleyball, Netball, Kabaddi, Karate, Badminton, Gymnastic etc.

The 25-metre swimming pool will be mainly available to schoolchildren of the entire Vavuniya District for them to learn swimming.
