The November National Golf Ranking Championships, will be held on the scenic course at the Rajawella, Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) from 25 to 29 November with majority of the leading golfers in the country. Day 1 will be the practise round.
This tournament would be a 72-hole stroke play gross event.
The championship has become a crucial event for Sri Lanka’s amateur golfers as they vie for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, which are pivotal for their international careers. Among the participants are the nation’s leading golfers, who occupy the top five WAGR spots for Sri Lanka:
At the recent rankings, Chalitha Puspika (653) has surged ahead, overtaking youngster Reshan Algama (666) at number 2. Uchitha Ranasinghe (693), a steady performer, remains a consistent challenger. Jevahn Sathasivam (746) made a remarkable leap of 1,257 places after his historic win at the Sri Lanka Open Amateur Championship, securing his position in the world’s top 1,000 for the first time. Yannik Kumara (878) also shows great promise, climbing 13 spots.
The rise of Jevahn Sathasivam, in particular, has drawn attention, as his breakthrough victory signals the arrival of a new force in Sri Lankan amateur golf. Unfortunately, Jevahn will miss out on this event in the Central Region due to his academic activities.
