S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, in collaboration with Middlesex University, will hold Obstaculum ’23 on 18 and 19 August.
This unique initiative underscores the college’s commitment to holistic development by emphasising the significance of both sports and academics in shaping well-rounded individuals.
Obstaculum ‘23, derived from the Latin word for ‘obstacle,’ is a dynamic platform designed to uncover latent athletic talents among students spanning various age groups. Organised at the Small Club Grounds, the event will challenge participants with a diverse array of age-appropriate activities that emphasise speed, stamina, agility, teamwork, and strength.
“Our mission is to cultivate a culture of fitness and athleticism among our students, fostering a generation of future sportsmen,” stated S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia Warden Rev’d Marc Billimoria. “Obstaculum ‘23 will not only encourage physical activity but also provide an opportunity for individuals with no prior sports background to discover their untapped potential.”
The event aims to engage a wide demographic, including students and families, by offering a diverse range of challenges such as Tyre Pulls, Sandbag Runs, Hurtling Medicine Balls, Mini Hurdle Obstacles, Balance Walks, and more. Participants will have the chance to put their skills to the test while competing for rewards and merchandise.
Obstaculum ‘23 is complemented by the concurrent Thomian Fun Fair taking place at the college premises, creating an exciting atmosphere for attendees of all ages. The event anticipates a footfall of over 1,000 participants over the two-day period, underscoring its significance as a platform for athletic exploration and growth.
