St. Benedict’s College and Old Benedictines’ Sports Club have announced the Softball Cricket 7s’ for both men and women on 8 December at St. Benedict’s College Grounds at Cyril C. Perera Mawatha (Bloumendhal Road).
The main objective of organising and conducting the event is to rally around past students of leading schools in the country and to create more opportunities for ex-student groups to develop meaningful understanding which would eventually benefit their alma mater.
The 2024 edition of the event will make room for 20 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams to combat and be winners of a Rs. 100,000 cash pot each for both men and women. Apart from these cash prizes, organisers will select Best Batsman and Best Bowler in each category and more cash prizes are there for grab.
The 2024 event has the complete blessings from St. Benedict’s College, Colombo 13 Director Rev. Brother Dr. Pubudu Rajapakse who shall grace the occasion as the Chief Guest along with many other stalwarts of the country and old boys of St. Benedict’s College.
The tournament will be conducted under four categories such as the Preliminary Round, Quarter Final stage, Semi Final stage and the grand final in both segments for men and women.
In the preliminary round, all teams in one group will play with all other teams in the same group to decide on a group winner. The Group winner will automatically advance to the Quarter Finals stage. There shall be five groups in the preliminary round and five group winners shall advance to the next round which is the Quarter Final stage.
Other three teams that are necessary for the quarter finals shall be selected from best second placed teams from all five groups based on the points they have earned during the preliminary round.
A briefing and match coordination meeting is scheduled for 2 December 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the OBSC Lounge at Old Benedictines’ Sports Club. All ex-student group teams that are registered with OBSC for this tournament shall have the invitation to attend this meeting to clear any doubts they have.
OBSC President is inviting ex-student groups of schools in and around Colombo or from any part of the country use this opportunity to strengthen the relationship they have with other student groups of different schools and to enjoy a day filled with fun, laughter and entertainment along with delicious food served at OBSC Lounge which caters food and beverage.
The Organising Committee of this event is co-chaired by renowned Benedictine sportsman of yesteryears, Tony Ganlath and Anura de Silva with able assistance from other members of OBSC.
