Sri Lanka ‘A’s Pasindu Sooriyabandara plays a shot in his innings of 60 against Oman ‘A’
Mahumudul Hasan Joy of Bangladesh ‘A’ celebrates his century against Afghanistan ‘A’
Hosts Sri Lanka ‘A’ proved too good for Oman ‘A’ who were shot out for 42 to lose by a massive margin of 217 runs in their ACC Men’s Emerging Asia Cup tournament match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium under lights yesterday.
Perhaps it was their inexperience of playing under lights that saw Oman ‘A’ in a great deal of trouble after bowling well to keep Sri Lanka ‘A’ down to a score of 259-8. All the bowlers used by Sri Lanka ‘A’ skipper Dunith Wellalage went onto take a wicket or more and Oman ‘A’ batsmen were all at sea.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara played a steady innings of 60 off 75 balls (5 fours) and contributions of 42 and 48 from Lasith Croospulle and Sahan Arachchige saw Sri Lanka ‘A’ to their total, which in fact should have been more having been 194-3 in the 41st over at one stage.
In the first game played at the P. Sara Oval, Afghanistan ‘A’ put up a great fight before losing to Bangladesh ‘A’ by 21 runs in a high scoring contest.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 100 off 114 balls (12 fours, 2 sixes) for Bangladesh ‘A’ to run up a challenging total of 308-7. At one point Bangladesh ‘A’ were 34-3, but recovered through a partnership of 117 between Zakir Hasan (62 off 72 balls, 6 fours, 2 sixes) and Mahmudul who also figured in another stand of 79 with Soumya Sarkar (48 off 42 balls, 3 sixes, 3 fours).
Afghanistan ‘A’ responded well with half-centuries from Riaz Hasan (78 off 105 balls, 7 fours, 2 sixes) and Bahir Shah (53* off 50 balls, 3 fours) to be within winning distance at 218-3 in the 42nd over but Bangladesh ‘A’ held their nerve to keep Afghanistan ‘A’ to 287-8. – (ST)
