Omega Line, a leading apparel manufacturer and exporter in Sri Lanka, won the championship of the Mercantile ‘A’ and ‘C’ categories of 2017’s women’s volleyball tournament held at the Maharagama National Youth Services Council’s indoor stadium.
The tournament hosted 100 women’s volleyball teams representing leading mercantile sector companies in the country.
The Omega Line ‘A’ and ‘C’ women’s volleyball teams became the centre of attention and clinched the main awards at the 2017 women’s volleyball tournament for the second consecutive year.
Piyumi Maheshila led the ‘A’ team while Prabodha Thilekeratne led the Omega Line ‘C’ team to clinch these awards.
The award for the ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the ‘A’ team was won by team leader Maheshila. The Best Setter and Best Attacker awards were won by Madushanika and Sanduni Kavisha.
In the ‘C’ team, the above awards went to Prabodha Thilekeratne, Dulani Jayasinghe and Prathibha Felix respectively.
These players excelled in the previous year’s games too to win the main awards of the tournament.
Commenting on the awards won by the teams, team manager Dhammika Thushara Herath said it was significant that Omega Line teams won the championship of the annual women’s volleyball tournament for two consecutive years.
“As a company which contributes towards the betterment of sports, we are happy that our teams excelled in this year’s women’s volleyball tournament as well. Winning the 2017 championship is a great achievement for our company and its employees.”
“Omega Line’s winning women’s volleyball teams are comprised entirely of the employees of the company. They all have dedicated themselves in training at their leisure time,” he added.
The trainers of the Omega Line women’s volleyball teams are Channa Jayasekera and Pushpa Ranjani Botheju.
The captain of the ‘A’ team, Maheshila, commented on this special win and said both teams were able to achieve these heights due to the support, encouragement and blessings of Omega Line directors and the total workforce.
“On behalf of the Omega Line women’s volleyball team, I pay my sincere gratitude to all of them,” she said.
