Order on case against Sri Lanka Rugby fixed for 14 July

The writ case No. 204/2023 concerning Sri Lanka Rugby was taken up this week in the Court of Appeal.

The matter was taken up for support and the Court of Appeal heard submissions from both sides. ASG who appeared for the Minister and other Ministry officials as well as the President Counsel who appeared for the Stabilisation Committee requested that they file a written submission. Accordingly, the order was reserved for 14 July by the President Court of Appeal.

President’s Counsel who appeared for the Petitioners made extensive submissions on the illegality of the Ministers order dated 11 April 2023 and emphasised that SLR was suspended by World Rugby purely due to political interference.

The AG Department was represented by ASG Sumathi Dharmawardana PC. Interim body Rugby was represented by Uditha Egalahewa PC. For Sri Lanka Rugby,  Dr. Faisz Musthapha PC, Keerthi Thilakaratne AAL, Panduka Keerthinanda AAL (Legal consultant for SLR). Faizer Musthapha PC appeared for an intervened party – Western Province Rugby.
