Pakistan beat India to clinch 8th Lawyers Cricket World Cup

Pakistan ‘A’ won the 8th edition of the Lawyers Cricket World Cup at the SSC on Saturday

Pakistan ‘A’ won the 8th edition of the Lawyers Cricket World Cup by defeating India ‘A’ by seven wickets at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground on Saturday. 

In the plate final played at the LRDC ground Nawala India ‘B’ beat Bangladesh ‘A’ by 23 runs.

India ‘A invited to bat first in the 35 overs per side game were restricted to 115 in 29.2 overs. Aditya Kumar Archiya scored 36 while Aravind Vekatesh Reddy (19) and Rohit Raj Pal (16) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Safdar Ali captured 3/13 while Khalid Sohail and Muhammed Usman captured two wickets each.

In the chase, Muzaffer Hussain’s 50 not out off 50 balls and  Muhammed Fazil’s 51 not out off 47 balls took the game away from India with seven wickets in hand and 13.2 overs remaining.

India ‘B’ had the consolation of winning the Plate final defeating Bangladesh ‘A’ by 23 runs at the LRDC ground Nawala. Forty plus scores from Madhusudan Kalantri and Kartik Veerabsdhu helped India ‘B’ to a score of 180/7 in the 25 over per side game while their bowlers were able to defend it.

Ten teams Bangladesh ‘A’ and ‘B’, Commonwealth, England and Wales, India ‘A’ and ‘B’, Pakistan ‘A’ and ‘B’ and Sri Lanka ‘A’ and ‘B’ competed in the 8th edition of the  Lawyers Cricket World Cup hosted by Sri Lanka Lawyers Cricket.

  • At the SSC, Pakistan ‘A’ beat India ‘A’ by seven wickets.

India ‘A’ 115 in 29.2 overs (Aditya Kumar Archiya 36; Safdar Ali 3-13, Muhammed Usman 2-31, Khalif Sohail 2-04) lost to Pakistan ‘A’ 117/3 in 21.4 overs (Muzaffer Hussain 50*, Mohammed Fazil 51*; Ashutosh Tiwari 2-44) by seven wickets.

  • At LRDC ground Nawala, ‘India ‘B’  beat Bangladesh ‘A’ by 23 runs.

India ‘B’ 180/7 in 25 overs (Madhusudan Kalantri 40, Kartik Veerabsdhu 47, Aman Shastri 28, Vijay Kumar 26; Imran Hossain Rony 2-41) beat Bangladesh ‘A’ 157/8 in 25 overs (Imran Hossain Rony 20, Sakibur Rahman 25, Ekramul Hoque 36; Kushal bhandari 2-40, Shivam Thiyagi 2-29) by 23 runs.
