Pallebowala Central wins 51st TB Jayah Memorial Schools Boxing Championship

Pallebowala Central were champions at the 51st T B Jayah Memorial All-island Boxing Championship 2022 which took place at the Jayathilake Stadium in Nawalapitiya recently. 81 schools with 430 boxers took part in this annual event.

Winners from Hanguranketta with less facilities collected four Gold and one Silver while Trinity College became runner-up with four Gold, one Silver and one Bronze. Mahanama College dropped down to third place with three Gold and one Silver.

For Trinity, their Gold Medals were won by R.S. Weerasekera (39-41 kg), R.N. Weerasekera (48-51 kg) and S. Jagnath Varshith (60-63 kg) while their Silver was won by P. Sooriyabandara (50-52 kg), Bronze was won by Salman Faris (46-48 kg)

Youngest in their outfit Zenel Zakeer (12) won his preliminary bout. Trinity was coached by Lahiru Abeysinghe. - (SJ)
