Kandy Sports Club player Shehan Pathirana and CR & FC player Kavindu Perera will be out of action for one month and three weeks respectively after the harsh punishment given by the Citing Officer of Sri Lanka Rugby.
Pathirana was handed a one-month suspension due to accidentally stamping on the face of his opposite number eight, Chathura Dilshan, who will be out due to injury for the same period of time.
Citing Officer Aruna Jayasekera has cited the incident and decided to hand a four-week ban on Pathirana which looks too harsh on the player.
Further this incident was an accidental stamping and not purposely done by the national sevens and fifteens player who has a clean rugby career record at school and club level at Havies and Kandy.
Aruna Jayasekera also slapped a three-week ban on CR & FC skipper Kavindu Perera, while CH and FC flanker Kanchana Lakshitha got two weeks. Sri Lanka sevens player Kavindu Perera was found guilty of making a spear tackle on an Air Force player in their opening encounter. This punishment too looks way high with the player missing out on three weeks instead of two weeks.
CH flanker Lakshitha was punished for punching a Kandy player and will be out for two matches.
