Davina Perrin was involved in two half-century partnerships to steer England to a comprehensive seven-wicket win over Australia in a Women’s Under-19 Tri-Series match played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Hambantota yesterday.
Perrin struck nine fours and one six in her 38-ball knock of 56 to take England past their target of 125.
With Erin Thomas (16), Perrin added 50 off 26 balls in an explosive opening partnership and with Abi Norgrove (30*) a further 52 off 32 balls as England dominated the Australian bowling.
Earlier Australia winning the toss and batting first could muster only 124-9. Amie Smith leading the side top scored a fluent 50 off 45 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) and put on a partnership of 81 off 55 balls for the fourth wicket with Lucy Finn (36).
However, from a promising position of 110-3, Australia lost their next six wickets for 14 runs to Tilly Corteen Coleman (3/15) and Josie Groves and Ava Lee who shared four wickets.
The win was England’s second win in the tournament against one loss, the same as host Sri Lanka. Australia has one win and three losses out of four games. Today Sri Lanka Women play England Women at the same venue.
