Peterites continue winning streak

St Peter’s College continued their winning streak till the end of round one when they handed off Vidyartha College 66/10 in their Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 first round encounter which concluded at Bambalapitiya last weekend.

At the short breather lads from Bambalapitiya led 35/5.

Peterites drew first blood in the 5th minute of the game when Yumeth Shehara brushed aside few defenders to touch down. Kushan Tharindu added the extras. Five minute later Peterites went further ahead through Pasindu Bandara try and Kushan Tharindu added the extras. But Vidyartha who never gave up replied through a superb number 8 try by Ranidu Gajanayake. But the lads from Bamba came back strongly with a try by Kushan Tharindu who scored and converted by self to take a 29/5 lead. There was time for one more try by Kushan and converted to take a clear 35/5 lead at the short breather.

After the turn around lads from Bamba scored through Sudesh Jayawickrama, Praneeth Silva, Kushan Tharindu and Dulaj Navodya scored the tries.

Joes spoil D.S. party

  • St. Joseph’s - 29 points
  • D.S. - 16 points

St. Joseph’s College not only beat D.S. Senanayake College but also spoiled their party of entering Super 4 when they beat the lads from Borella 29/16 in their last first round game of the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 played at Havelock Park.

At the short breather Joes led 24/6.

Joes skipper scored first in the 4th minute of the game through their skipper burly, Naveen Marasinghe. Ivano White added the extras. Ayeshan scored the 2nd Joes try with Ivano adding the extras. Umagiliyage added 2 penalties for D.S. to cut the deficit to 8 points.

Two quick tries by Tharusha Jayasuriya and Rishma Jayasekara took the scores to 24/6 favoring the lads from Darley Road to take a clear lead.

After the turn around D.S. looked a revamped outfit by scoring through Manura Peiris with Wijerathne converting to cut the deficit further to 9 points. The scores stood at 24/13 favoring Joes. Umagiliyage put over one penalty while Joes had time for one more try by Jayasuriya.

Anto through to Super 4

  • St. Anthony’s - 34 points
  • S’ Thomas - 17 points

Antonians had an ideal end to their first round encounters when they not only beat the Thomians on bonus point but also saw the Joes beat D.S. which got them through as the only Kandy side to qualify for the Super 4 round in the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2023 which concluded at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekelle. Antonians went on to beat the Thomians 34/17 in the end.

Through this win they regained Rev. Father Rosati Memorial Trophy, after a lapse of 12 years.

 At the short breather Antonians led 10/3.

Antonians drew first blood in the 11th minute of the game through Thisara Galanga. Another try by Tyron Mariyadas took the Antonians in to a 10/0 lead. Bulathsingalage penalty was the only scoring for the Thomians in the initial half as they took the short breather at 10/3.

After the turn around Antonians scored through Mariyadas, Roshen with skipper Sahan on target with one of them to take the scores to 22/3. Manil Fernando scored the Thomians first try with Yehan on target with the kick at goal to take the scores to 10/22 trailing 12 points behind. Saduka Athukorale brushed aside a few defenders with Sahan adding the extras to take the Antonians to a bouns point at 29/10.

But the lads from Mount Lavinia who never gave up touched down through Shenal Fernando. Bulathsinhalage added the extras. But Sahan Keerthisiri the play maker and Antonian skipper touched down the Katugastota lads last try.

Science record first win this season

  • Science - 24 points
  • Dharmaraja - 21 points

Science College scored their first win this season when they beat Rajans 24/21 at Mount Lavinia Last weekend.

Science scored their tries through Oshada Perera, Sahan Bandara and Sasitha Nimantha with Oshada putting over 3 penalties for the winners.

Rajans scored their tries through Chalana Mendis (2 tries) and Ishara Wijewardena while Lasith Wijesooriya converted all three of them.
