Tharindu Kushan on attacking way for the Peterites
St. Peter’s College returned back after a week rest but notably continued their winning streak when they not only got the better of Dharmaraja College but also scored a bonus point win to register 34 points (6 tries, 2 conversions) to 7 points (1 try, 1 conversion) in their Dialog School Under-19 Rugby league encounter which concluded at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy yesterday.
At the short breather lads from Bambalapitiya led 22/0.
St. Peter’s College coordinated well between their forwards and three quarters playing really hard and open rugby. They looked a yard faster and their three quarter moves were with lot of purpose. They ran in four unanswered tries in the initial half. They split the Rajans defence all over in the initial half. Meanwhile Rajans ball handling was far below standard and even it was not a wet day and Peterites showed how the running rugby could add points. Every opportunity the home team got to attack they split the ball with butter fingers. After the turn around Rajans played with better coordination and kept the Peterites down to two tries and scored one by them.
Lads from Bambalapitya drew first blood in the 9th minute of the game through Sadesh Jayawickrema. Yometh Shihara missed the kick at goal. Six minutes later Peters scored through Kushan Tharindu. Once again kick was missed. In the 25th minute Kushan Tharindu touched down again. Yomesh added the extra 2 points. Tharindu Kushan scored his third try on stroke of half time to take the short breather 22 to nothing.
After the turn around Peters scored 57th minute through Rohitha Ridmal through a forwards rush. Rajans scored their solitary try through a forwards rush when their hooker, Anoopa Herath went over. Sadeesha Weerawansa added the extra 2 points.
Visitors had time for one more trying the 70th minute through replacement winger, Vishanke Silva with Emith Jayaweera adding the extra points to take a bonus point win in the end.
