3rd TPT Hockey Carnival

By Shamseer Jaleel

The third edition of the TPT Hockey Carnival, featuring Trinity, St. Peter’s and S. Thomas’ College, was worked off at the Trinity College Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium.

The Peterites made a clean sweep by winning all three titles while the schools Under-15 and Under-19 segments were both won by Trinity.

Unfortunately, St. Peter’s did not send their two school teams for this event which was the only negative point for this year’s tournament. The Trinitians and Peterites engaged in a close tussle in the Over-20 encounter which went into extra time. In the penalty shootout, the Peterites won with Minol Jayasundera scoring the winning goal. The Mario Joseph and Godwin Solomons Shield was won by the Bambalapitiya lads.

The Over-30 event, the shield for which was donated by the Old Trinitians Sports Club (OTSC), was won by the Peterites, who beat the Thomians with a 1-0 score line as the Bambalapitiya school skipper and former national player Shakthi Rasiah sliced through with a solitary goal. In the Over-40 segment, the shield for which was donated by Dr. Sarath de Alwis Seneviratne in memory of his father, the Peterites prevailed 1-0. The winning goal came from S. Phillip.

In the school game, which was battled out between Trinity and S. Thomas’, the Under-15 winning goal was scored by Trinitian Sachithra while in the Under-19 event once again Trinity won the game by scoring a solitary goal through Tharatharan.

Shihan Mahroof was the Player of the Final.
