Unbeaten league champions, St. Peter’s were stretched to the maximum this season for the very first time, when Trinity Lions gave them a torrid time in front of their home fans at Bambalapitiya last weekend. In the end, Peterites managed to keep their unbeaten tag intact, edging out the Lions 37/28.

At the short breather Trinity led 13/12.

Once again Petrite line looked threatening whenever in attack, but for Trinitians’ credit, they played their hearts out. Lions’ defence was rock solid and the Bamba lads expected a walk in the park, but in the end had to fight for their life. Pasindu Bandara, Rahul Peter and Dulaj Navodya were outstanding for the home lads.

Meanwhile for Trinity, their scrum-half, Udan Wijekoon once again played his heart out with some nippy moves and box kicks, which kept the Bamba lads’ defence on their toes. Yewan Hulangamuwa, Usman Safraz, Udeesha Ratnayake and Ravin Illangarathne were omnipresent.

St. Peter’s scored five tries while Trinitians replied with three of their own in the end.Trinity scored first through their winger Udeesha Rathnayake. Yewan Hulangamuwa, their full-back, added the extras plus and also put over two penalties in the initial half; meanwhile for the Bamba lads, they scored through Vishenka Silva and Dulaj Navodya one try each.

After the turn around Pasindu Bandara, Ravindu Ridmal and Vishenka Silva touched down while Peter converted two of them and put over equal number of penalties. For the Kandy lads, Dehan Watagoda who came in the second half along with skipper, Thisanga Dissanayake touched down one try each with Hulangamuwa converted one and put over a penalty as well for the Lions.

Referee was Kelum Sandaruwan.
