Peterites to host Centenary International Rugby 7s

TDM Platinum sponsors handing over the sponsorship cheque to St. Peter’s College

St. Peter’s College celebrating their Centenary year will host an International Under-20 Rugby Sevens Tournament 2023 on 14 and 15 October at Bambalapitiya. Kick-off is expected to be at 9 a.m. on both days. 

There will be eight local schools namely DS Senanayake, Royal, Thurstan, Sumangala Kandy, Vidyartha, Wesley, Zahira and hosts St. Peter’s along with the four International schools teams from University of Technology Sydney, Gordon Rugby Football Club Sydney, Bahrain RFC and Negeri Sembilan Rugby School from Malaysia.

The 12 teams will be divided into two groups and two foreign teams will comprise each of the groups. On day one each team will play three of their group matches while on day two they will play the balance two games plus their segment knockout encounters as well. 

This tournament is sanctioned by Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SSRFA). The Sri Lanka Referees Society will provide their officials along with four overseas referees who will also be officiating at the two-day event. There will be Cup, Plate and Bowl segment taking place on the last day.

All participating overseas teams and two Kandy teams will be provided accommodation. The 12 teams will get water and meals free of charge. Entrance on both days is free. The draw for the tournament will take place on 4 October.

TDM International will come in as Platinum sponsor while George Stuart Sports and Nalin Jayasundera will prop up as the Bronze sponsors. The product sponsors are BaseHP, American Water, Sound EFX, Frosty, Agoal, Yes 101, The Papare, Hemas Hospitals, Dialog and Aarons.
