The Plate Inter-Club Rugby Tournament concludes this weekend with Police SC versus Army SC on 14 March at Police Park and Sri Lions versus Navy SC on 15 March at the Racecourse ground and kick off is at 4 p.m.

Police, still in contention for the Plate title, need a bonus point victory to stay in the hunt. Even with maximum points, their fate will rely on an unlikely sequence of results, making their path to the trophy highly improbable as CH and FC got better net points in their 12 games played so far.

CH & FC, currently leading the standings, are poised to claim the Plate title unless Police can pull off a miracle. CH has been consistent throughout the tournament and will be keeping a close eye on proceedings as they inch closer to silverware.

With the Plate tournament reaching its climax, teams will be looking to finish strongly before shifting their focus to the Clifford Cup.

Hirantha Perera, Akash Madushanka and Hafiz Thabeeth are the much looked forward players from the Cops outfit. Meanwhile Soldiers will depend on Dharshana Dabare, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Mohamed Akram to end the season on a winning note.

Referee will be Raveen Alexander.

While both teams are out of contention for the title, Sri Lions, in their debut season, have impressed with victories over CH & FC and Navy SC earlier in the campaign. They will look to finish on a high in front of their home crowd.

For Navy SC, this match presents a final opportunity to salvage some pride. The Sailors have endured a difficult season, remaining winless so far. With their Clifford Cup aspirations already dashed, they will be desperate to end the campaign on a positive note. However, they face a stern challenge against a confident Sri Lions outfit determined to make a statement.

Sri Lions’ debut season has been remarkable, as they have managed to hold their own against experienced top-tier clubs. Their performances have earned them a spot in the Clifford Cup as the eighth-ranked team, ensuring their place in the premier knockout competition. In contrast, Navy SC’s struggles have seen them finish ninth, meaning they will miss out on the prestigious tournament.

Sri Lions got some class acts such as Chanaka Chandimal, Dinuk Amarasinghe, Dulaj Nawodya and Mohamed Nizran. Meanwhile sailors will heavily depend on Thilina Weerasinghe and Shabith Musheen both playing well for the Welisara outfit this season.

Referee will be Suranga Arunashantha.
