Heshan Kalhara on powerful move for Cops

Police Sports Club made a bold comeback and win in the Plate segment of the Super Round encounter to get the better of the much fancied CH and FC by 25 points (4 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) to 15 points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) win in their Inter Club rugby encounter which concluded at the Racecourse ground yesterday.

At the short breather Cops led 22/15.

Police played some cohesive rugby in the initial half running as many as 4 tries. But come second half their opponents CH put up a brave display not allowing the Cops to score any tries in the later half. In fact the Police outfit could manage only one penalty in the later half. Hafiz Thabeeth, Heshan Kalhara and Amjad Faumy played well for the Cops.

CH played poorly in the first half taking time to settle down which was their weakness in more than one game this season. Their line out throws and winning their own ball was far below standard which cost them in the end. Skipper Janidu Dilshan, Pasindu Bandara and Harsha Maduranga played well in the later half.

Police scored their tries through Prince Chamara, Heshan Kalhara, Hafiz Thabeeth and Susan Kodituwakku. Yohan Peiris converted one of them while Prince Chamara put over a penalty in the last minute of play for the winners.  CH scored their tries through Charith Silva and Devinda Rathnayake. Kavindu Yasas converted one of them and put over a solitary penalty for CH.

Referee was Suranga Arunashantha.

CH and FC lead the Plate Segment points table with 33 points from their 11 games played so far while the Cops are at number 2 with 27 points played in 10 games as at date. Plate segment is moving in to its final phases with CH, Police and Army been the three main contenders for the trophy this year.
