Army SC all out to spoil Cops party
By Shamzeer Jaleel
Police Sports Club who are sitting at six will be in a must-win game against Army Sports Club in their Nippon Paint Inter-Club Rugby league encounter which will be played off tomorrow at the Police Park.
Police, who displayed quality rugby this season having obtained 12 points while Army SC is in the seventh position at 10 points, cannot make it to the top four. Police SC’s main threat is the 17 points obtained by Air Force SC who are currently at number four position by having completed their first-round encounters.
Police SC coached by veteran former Royal, CR and FC, and national fly-half, Asanga Rodrigo got immense potential to have a win in this encounter. Wageesha Weerasinghe, Yohan Peiris, Sachith Silva, and skipper, Iroshan Silva are class acts who could walk into any team with their skill levels.
Army SC is coached by former Rajans, Kandy SC, and national player, Radhika Hettiarachchi who almost stunned the defending champions, Kandy SC in their last outing which was stopped early in the second half due to heavy rain.
Soldiers possess a fast three-quarter line. Dilshara Kodagoda, Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Gayan Salinda are their main weapons. In current form, this could be a game between the Cops forwards vs Soldiers back division which is expected to be a close affair that could go either way. Referee is Ishanka Abeykoon.
