Action at Police vs Air Force encounter

Manilka Ruberu on attack for CR

Sri Lanka Police Sports Club shocked the much-fancied Sri Lanka Air Force Sports 21/15 in their Nippon Paint Inter Club Rugby League 2022/2023 rugby encounter which was played at Ratmalana on Friday.

At the short breather winners led 21/10.

This was the first win for the Cops after some pathetic display in their first three games while Air Force did really well in their first three outings’ winnings one and showing good promise against the Havies losing by a solitary point plus the away game against Kandy too was a good outing though ending on the losing side.

Air Force drew first blood through their nippy scrum half who was on target with a 30-meter penalty in the fifth minute of the game. But the Cops replied through a dandy try through their skipper Nisal Samadi and Yohan Peiris conversion gave them the lead at 7/3. The home team hit back through Niroshan Rajanayake try and Nuwan Perera conversion to take the lead in their favor at 10/7.

But the Cops scored twice within five minutes with tries through Hashan Fernando and Amjad Faumy both were converted by Yohan to take the lead back 21/10 in Cops favor.

After the turn around the ding dong battle continued. Both teams tried to beat their opponent’s defence many times but failed till Air Force scored the only second half try through Parakrama Ratnayake.
