Presidents Cup Golf 2021: Dihan to defend title

Dihan de Silva will retain his title at the Presidents Cup Golf when the Royal Colombo Golf Club conducts the tournament this weekend at their golf course in Colombo on 30 and 31 January. Ranil Peiris was the runner up in the main event last year.

In 1883 the President of the Club, G.S. Williams instituted the Presidents Cup. The format was Match-Play and there were 12 entries. The Prize was won by J.N. Campbell. The Presidents Cup of 1897, the first at the Ridgeways Course, was won by G.F. Munro, a resident of Tain in Scotland.

The Presidents Cup has been played continuously since the inception except during the Second World War between 1942 and 1947, when the Club House and sections of the course were occupied by the military and when all golfing activities were restricted.

This tournament is open to all club members (men’s section) with a current handicap. The format will be Stroke Play, Best Aggregate Nett Score over the two rounds. the winner of the tournament will secure the Presidents Cup for one year and will also receive a prize donated by the President of the Club, Michael Perera Magala. There will be additional prizes for the Winner and Runner Up and the Best Nett Score of each round; Masters/Seniors/Ladies – Overall Winner/Runner Up (Best Nett 1st Round).
