Prima Sunrise Bread will sponsor the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf and Regional Open Golf Tournament for the 14th year in tandem. These two events will take place from 20 to 22 December at the Royal Colombo Golf Club with the tee off on both days expected to be at 7 a.m.
This event is considered as a benchmark for the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). With Sri Lanka Golf (SG) organising many events around the country the development of the sports too on the positive move and golf becoming one of the leading sports in the country. The Regional Open Junior events are held in Trincomalee, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura and Kandy around the year. This tournament covers age group from 9 to 18 years.
Yannika Kumara (Boys) and Kaya Daluwatte (Girls) are the defending champions of the main event (Gold). There will be some top-class juniors teeing off in this event such as Jacob Norton, Kayan John Pillai, K. Danushan, Nirekh Tejwani and Thejas Rathis Kanth. In the Silver division (12 to 15 years) Algama brothers (Reshan and Keshav) will be in action. Reshan the 14-year-old long hitting golfing sensation oozing with talent will be all out to retain his title for the third year in tandem.
Aggregate Gross score over three stipulated rounds of stroke play with one 18-hole round per day over days will be on for the Boys and Girls in the Gold Division. Open Gold Division age segment will be 15 to 19 years while the Silver Division will be from the age limit of 12 to 15 years. The Bronze division will be worked off from 10 years to 12 years.
