The eighth edition of the Professionals Cricket League (PCL) organised and conducted by the Professionals’ Cricket Association will get underway on Sunday (20) at the Army Ground in Maththegoda with the Doctors taking on the Surveyors in the morning game and defending champions Engineers taking on the Architects in the evening game.
The Professionals’ Cricket Association is a cricketing body established with the objective of promoting fellowship and camaraderie between professionals in various fields including the distinguished and noble professions of law, medicine, architecture, engineering, town planning and aviation in the spirit of cricket.
The PCL is played in the T20 format with the participation of teams representing Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Cricket, Sri Lanka Doctors’ Cricket, Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, Institute of Engineers Sri Lanka, Aviators, Institute of Town Planners Sri Lanka and the two new members, Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing cricket team and Sri Lanka Government Surveyors Cricket.
The Professionals Cricket League was first played in 2015. The Lawyers emerged champs in the inaugural game while in 2017, 2021 and 2022 the Engineers defeated the Lawyers, Doctors and Lawyers respectively to win the league. The Doctors too have figured in four of the seven finals played to date and won the league in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
For the league stage Engineers, Aviators, Architects and Marketers have been drawn in Group A while Lawyers, Doctors, Town Planners and Surveyors have been drawn in group B.
