Nishan Madushka celebrates his century against England Lions on the second day
Lahiru Udara reverse sweeps during his knock of 93 for SLC Board XI
The 2022 season’s prolific run-getter in the Major League tournament Nishan Madushka continued his impressive form with the bat when he scored a marvellous 150 for SLC Board XI against the touring England Lions on the second day of the three-day warm-up match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
Madushka who reeled off five centuries including an unbeaten triple hundred in accumulating the highest aggregate of the season 1229 (avg. 93.53) for Ragama CC, struck 24 fours and a six in his 158-ball innings that lasted 261 minutes.
With Lahiru Udara who scored an aggressive 93 off 85 balls (13 fours, 2 sixes), Madushka added 170 for the third wicket. At 312-3, SLC Board XI placed themselves in a position to overhaul England Lions’ first innings total of 413-8 declared.
But after Irish left-arm seamer Josh Little who represented Dambulla Giants in the LPL had removed Udara and Madushka had retired out with the score at 328, the local team’s innings crumbled with the last five wickets tumbling for 27 runs. Josh Tongue with his right-arm seamers helped himself to three of the wickets conceding 22 runs off eight overs.
With a 58-run first innings lead, England Lions stretched it to 222 scoring 164-8 by the close with spinners Nimesh Vimukthi and Sahan Arachchige sharing four wickets between them. The match continues on its third and final day today. – (ST)
