RCGC retains Burdett Trophy

Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) tied with Nuwara-Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) six a piece but virtue of their last win RCGC took home the trophy at their 119th Burdett trophy event which was worked off at the NEGC course last weekend.

The Burdett teams comprised 12 players each, who played four foursome matches and eight singles on the par 71 course which extends over 6,075 yards of challenging fairways.

There was a close contest for the Burdett Trophy result of which was decided in semi darkness between Ranil Peiris (RCGC) and Manjula Chandrasoma (NEGC) which went into the 18th hole and the game ended in a tie.

Alongside this main event there was also a Ladies event played for Puffins Cup (was played as four foursome matches and four single matches), Masters Golf tournament and 125th Anniversary competitions. More than 120 golfers teed off in this annual event.

Now the tally stands at 64 to RCGC and 37 to NEGC. Principal sponsor of the major tournament was Apparel Technologies.
