Ragama CC entered the final of the Major Club Under 23 tournament when they defeated Tamil Union in the first innings of a drawn game played at the CCC grounds.
Match winners for Ragama CC were former Peterite and Tamil Union left-hander Ranmith Jayasena who stroked a superb 139 off 217 balls (15 fours, 1 six), and all-round performances from former Thomian and Ragama CC captain Dellon Peiris (43 and 4/31) and former Katugastota Antonian Kalhara Senaratne (60* and 2/50).
Ragama CC recovered from losing their first five wickets for 86 to total 311. Tamil Union were given a sound start by openers Navod Paranavithana (102 off 157 balls, 10 fours, 1 six), the former Sri Lanka Under 19 cricketer and Sithara Hapuhinna (41) who put on 61, but failed to maintain the momentum and were dismissed for 240.
In the second semi-final which began yesterday at Colts, Moors SC invited to bat first by SSC were 137-4 before bad light and rain ended play. The match will continue today. – (ST)
