Rain continued to plague the third week of matches in the National Super League 4-day tournament with little or no play taking place on the second day in the two matches.

For the second successive day there was no play in the match between Kandy and Dambulla at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium, while at Pallekele only 11.4 overs were possible before rain washed out play for the day with Jaffna led by Test batsman Dhananjaya de Silva carrying their overnight score of 136-5 to 171-7 against Colombo.

Playing his first match for Jaffna since returning from representing Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International T20 League in UAE, De Silva made 19 off 42 balls before giving a catch to Colombo’s acting captain Avishka Fernando off Prabath Jayasuriya. Fernando is leading Colombo in the absence of Nipun Dananjaya who is captaining Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the two-match unofficial 4-day test series in Galle. – (ST)

Scores: Jaffna 171-7 at close (o/n 136-5) (Ron Chandraguptha 68, Kasun Abeyratne 36, Tharindu Ratnayake 3/24) vs Colombo
