Rain continued to play havoc with the inaugural Lanka T10 Super League at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium yesterday allowing only one of the three matches down for decision to be completed.
In the only game that went the distance, which was the last one for the day, Jaffna Titans secured their second successive win by beating Colombo Jaguars by 40 runs.
Jaffna Titans recovered from losing their first wicket without a run on the board to post a competitive score of 138-6, thanks largely to the second wicket stand of 80 off 33 balls between Sri Lanka player Kusal Mendis (37 off 19 balls, 6 fours, 1 six) and Sri Lanka white ball skipper Charith Asalanka (56 off 24 balls, 5 fours, 5 sixes).
Off-spinner Traveen Mathew who won the Player of the Match award in Jaffna’s first game on the opening day, was once again the chief destroyer of the opposition taking three key Colombo wickets for 18 runs – that of Kamindu Mendis, Colombo Jaguars skipper Angelo Mathews and Najibullah Zadran. With Mathew making inroads into the batting, Colombo managed to reply with only 98-6.
In the first match of the day only 3.3 overs were bowled during which time Kandy Bolts invited to bat first by Nuwara Eliya Kings progressed to 38-1 before the rains set in forcing a no-result.
The second match for the day between Galle Marvels and Hambantota Bangla Tigers never got started because the bad weather continued in all its fury forcing the game to be abandoned without a ball bowled.
