Rain allowed only 10 balls to be bowled on the third day of the SLC Major Clubs League three-day tournament four-day finals between SSC and Police SC at the NCC grounds yesterday before play was abandoned for the day yesterday, which brings into question how good the drainage facilities are at this venue.
There was bright sunshine during the day and dampness in a certain part of the outfield that was quite soggy, that prevented play from recommencing. The umpires made several inspections during the day before deciding to commence play in the afternoon.
However, only 10 balls were possible during which period SSC added four runs moving from their overnight 250-3 to 254-3 before the heavens opened out.
Play was possible only on the first day where SSC invited to bat first finished on 250-3. Not a ball was bowled on the second day due to wet ground conditions.
Today is the fourth and final day of the match and if a winning result cannot be obtained even in the first innings, the game will end in a draw and the two teams declared joint champions.
Prize money for the final is Rs. 1.5 million to the winner and Rs. 1 million to the runner-up. Individual awards comprise Rs. 500,000 to the Player of the Tournament, Rs. 300,000 for Best Batsman, Rs. 300,000 for Best Bowler and Rs. 200,000 for Player of the Final. – (ST)
