Ramesh Mendis from Moors SC

Ramesh Mendis a good prospect for Sri Lanka

Former Dharmasoka Ambalanoda and current Moors Sports Club player, Ramesh Mendis has become as one of the genuine all-rounders of Sri Lankan cricket. He proved his class at the recently-concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL) in Hambantota representing the Dambulla outfit.

Ramesh soon after leaving school joined the Moors outfit and performed very well in club cricket, scoring at will. His magical knock of an unbeaten 300 against Negombo CC was piece of class. In his last first class season he played in 8 matches for the Moors SC scoring 714 runs was ranked as the top six batsman in the segment. He was in sparkling form in the last season but awaits his opportunity in the national team.

At the LPL 2020 Ramesh played in seven matches bowling 17 overs conceding 120 runs and taking six wickets at an average of 20 per wicket. Further he had an amazing bowling economy of seven per over, only second to national cricketer, Wanidu Hasaranga. He is no push over in batting and in his three innings scored 49 runs with an average of 24.50

He was given the opportunity against the visiting West Indies team representing the Sri Lanka Board XI where he once again showed his fine form with an unbeaten 64 off only in 63 balls. He also did well against the visiting Bangladesh team taking three wickets in the 50 over game and two wickets in the unofficial Test match.

Ramesh Mendis could be the next genuine all-rounder which Sri Lanka is looking out for with England and Bangladesh (home) and West Indies (away) series coming up in the near future.
