Sri Lankan Karate Schools Captain Randev Athukorala wins the Silver Medal

 


Sri Lankan Schools Karate Captain Randev Athukorala won two medals for the country winning the Silver Medal for the Black Belt Under 18 heavy weight category and a Bronze Medal for the Kata event at the 10th Silent Knight Karate Cup that was staged at the Titiwangsa Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.    

Young Athukorala beat the Indian and Indonesian number one and met the Malaysian number 1 in a hard fought final which the Malaysian won 5-3.  “It was a tough fight given that my competitor had the home country advantage but winning the Silver Medal for a Kumitae event internationally is a good achievement for Sri Lanka. I will do my best at the Asian Championships that is coming up in April,” he said.

Peterite Randev is trained by national karate trainer Kalyana Sensei, school trainer Sensei DMD Nimal and Kumitae specialist trainer Sensei Jurangpathy. Randev Athukorala made it to the global rankings to number 17 as per the results of the World Karate Federation, Spain whilst he was awarded the 2nd Dan Black Belt Shihan Suzuki, Japan.
