The Police SC verses Nugegoda S&WC match of the Major Club Emerging three-day tournament produced a rare tie at Police Park yesterday. Both teams collected six points each.
Police SC needing 168 for victory fell agonizingly short by two runs when R. Ganganath who had brought them closer to the winning target with a plucky 22 off 50 balls was stumped off the bowling of off-spinner Nimesha Gunasinghe, giving the bowler his sixth wicket of the innings for 69 runs.
Police SC were all out for 167, with left-arm spinner Prageeth Gunathilaka chipping in with four wickets for match figures of nine for 137.
Moors SC consolidated their position at the top of Group A, with their 20-year-old left-arm spinner from Jaffna Central College, Theesan Vithusan taking a match bag of 9 wickets for 128 runs to bowl them to a convincing ten-wicket win over Sebastianites at Moratuwa. Vithusan has been Moors SC trump card in the tournament, so far with 26 wickets, which has enabled them to register three wins out of three.
Sri Lanka Under-19 World Cup fast bowler, Yasiru Rodrigo produced a sensational piece of left-arm medium-fast bowling to rout CCC for 55 in their second innings and give Lankan CC an emphatic win by seven wickets. Rodrigo finished with figures of 6 for 26 off 8.2 overs
Former Zahira College Colombo off-spinner, 21-year-old Rajendran Aravinth continued his magnificent form with the ball for Bloomfield taking a match bag of 14 wickets for 147 runs (6/77 and 8/70) but his effort was in vain as they lost to Kurunegala YCC by 59 runs at the Welagedera Stadium. Aravinth had taken 5/94 v NCC and 5/71 against Negombo CC in the previous two matches. Bloomfield set a target of 191 and were all out for 131.
There were also wins for Negombo CC, Ragama CC and Kalutara TC.
