It took Bloomfield a matter of 18.1 overs to capture the remaining six Chilaw Marians CC wickets and wrap up their SLC Major Club 3-day match inside two days with a comprehensive innings and 4 runs win at the Bloomfield grounds yesterday.
With there being no play on the first day due to bad weather the second day saw 24 wickets fall so that at the end of play Chilaw Marians CC were left struggling at 26-4 in their second innings. They trailed Bloomfield (190) by 81 runs in the first innings and required a better batting effort if they were to save the game.
But for the second time in the match their batsmen fell prey to the off-breaks of Ravindu Fernando, the former Maris Stella, Negombo all-rounder who followed his 5/42 in the first innings with another inspiring spell of bowling taking 6/50 to finish with a career best match bag of 11/92. Chilaw Marians CC were dismissed for 77 with their remaining six wickets falling for 51.
