LONDON, REUTERS: Australia opener David Warner has presented a signed team shirt to a net bowler who is recovering from a blow in the head by a straight drive from the southpaw during last Saturday’s training session at The Oval.

Jaykishan Plaha had dropped to the ground after being hit on the head by Warner’s cracking straight drive, halting Australia’s practice session before their match against India which they went on to lose by 36 runs.

Plaha spent four nights in a hospital and Australia captain Aaron Finch then said Warner was shaken up by the incident.

A week after the incident, Plaha returned to The Oval before Australia’s match against Sri Lanka and was hugged by Warner who also presented him a jersey signed by his teammates.

“It was just an unfortunate accident,” Warner told the host broadcaster.  “We’re extremely grateful for the guys coming in and bowling to us workloads can stop us facing our own bowlers sometimes.

“To come in and roll the arm over and unfortunately get hit was sad, it was a real shock to us.

“Now he’s recovering, back on his feet and said he’ll be bowling again in about six weeks.”
