Renown Blues and Whites, Colombo Kickerz record wins at UTF Junior League

Renown FA Blues, Renown FA Whites and Colombo Kickerz FA recorded contrasting wins at the inaugural ‘Unity Through Football’ (UTF) Junior Football League first week games played at the CR&FC ground in Colombo yesterday.

The opening day’s games of the UTF Junior Football League saw hosts Renown Blues recording a comfortable 5-0 win against Java Lane FA, Colombo Kickerz defeating Henry Pedris FA by 3-0 and Renown Whites recording a thrilling 1-0 win against Cooray FA.

The ‘Unity Through Football’ Junior Football League, the country’s first-ever junior football league, kicked off under a carnival atmosphere at the CR&FC ground in Longdon Place with six Under-10s teams from Colombo participating as a pilot project as the organisers intend the kids to get the real feel of playing in a league on a home and away basis every weekend. The teams come from Sri Lanka’s leading football academies include Colombo Kickerz Football Academy, Cooray Football Academy, Java Lane Football Academy, Henry Pedris Football Academy and hosts Renown Football Academy.

Each weekend the academies will take turns to host matches for the week in their respective home grounds. The league will continue for six weekends with the opening and final week matches being streamed online with weekly updates of fixtures, results and table to give a first-hand experience of a league.
