Reshan Algama

In a dazzling exhibition of skill, unwavering determination, and a commitment to excellence fifteen year old, Reshan Algama, has taken the lead in the 3rd day of the competition, setting the stage for a potential historic win in his third consecutive Sri Lankan Ranking tournament which concluded at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) in Rajawella yesterday.

On both day 2 and day 3 of the event Reshan Algama showcased his exceptional talent, shooting a solid one over and even par round, totalling an impressive 221. This outstanding performance has catapulted him into the lead, a remarkable three shots ahead of seasoned professional Priya Hemantha, who is 3 strokes behind at 224.

Notably, the young sensation from Colombo International School left experienced amateurs Chalitha Pushpika and Chanaka Perera trailing behind, with scores of 233 and 234, respectively. Reshan’s dominance on the course has placed the veterans 12 and 13 shots off, facing the formidable challenge of catching up to the 15-year-old prodigy.

Aditya Weerasinghe and Jevahn Sathasivam are placed 6th and 7th with overall scores of 245 and 247. With the last day ahead, they are in a challenging position, needing to bring their best game forward to secure a spot in prestigious tournaments in India or Malaysia. But both looks confident of reaching the top 5. Pro Priya Hemantha will not be eligible for these two overseas tours.

The top 2 finishers will book their berth for the Indian golf event while the 3rd and 4th placed golfers will fly to Malaysia to play in their event next month.

As the competition reaches its climax, all eyes are on Reshan Algama. If he can maintain his composure and high level of play on the final and undoubtedly interesting day, he will etch his name in the annals of Sri Lankan golfing history. Adithya Weerasinghe and Jevahn Sathasivam too are front runners for the top 4 finish among the amateurs.

The last day promises to be an exhilarating spectacle for golf enthusiasts as they witness the battle for supremacy among Sri Lanka’s top amateurs. The tournament is organised and coordinated by Sri Lankan Golf Union who is dedicated to promote and grow talented golfers in Sri Lanka who can now compete with vigour globally.
