Gold segment winner Reshan Algama
In a sensational showcase of skill and form talented left-hander and Sri Lanka Amateur 2023 Champion Reshan Algama emerged victorious in the Srixon Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) Junior Open Golf Championship 2024, securing his place in history with a total score of 206 (7 under on all three days).
Algama faced one of the best comebacks seen in recent times. Kumar Danushan, secured second place, delivering a fantastic performance by equaling a solid 5-under 66 made by Algama on day two. However, Algama, maintaining his cool, shot a commendable 2 under 69, to clinch the championship with a narrow lead over Danushan, who finished with a total score of 208. Another top class junior golfer Yannik Kumara secured third position with a powerful 3-under-par overall total of 216. Jevahn Sathasivam secured fourth place with a total score of 224, demonstrating a commendable performance throughout the championship.
In the Silver Division for girls, Keya Abhayaratne dominated the competition, securing an easy first place with a total score of 313, comfortably winning by more than 25 points from Aaradhi Samararathne (338). Lorance Sithara Dedunu claimed third position with a score of 341.
The 13 to 15+ years boys Silver segment witnessed Adithya Weerasinghe from Anuradhapura emerging the winner with an impressive 2 under total of 224. Keshav Algama secured an admirable second place with a score of 238 pushing T Dilshan with a score of 241 to third place.
In the Bronze Division for girls, Nimasha Dahamdi secured top spot with a score of 246, while Aamindi Umasha claimed second place with a score of 283. The Bronze Division for 11 years and under, playing 14 holes, showcased H. Shenal Nimsith as the leader, producing yet another solid round to win his category with an overall score of 171. Lavidu Premarathne from Anuradhapura secured second place with a score of 189, followed by Udeera Bandara from the same region with a score of 200.
In the Girls Copper division, Hesandi Meepawala secured first place with a score of 141, followed closely by Vihara Herath (142) and Thangaraja Sanuthi (186).
For the 10-year boys in the Copper Division, Revaan Amarasinghe showcased exceptional talent, securing first position with a score of 107. Jaidon Herath claimed second place with a score of 111. Jaeden Sathasivam was third with a score of 118. – (SJ)
