The three-week residential training camp for 75 selected Under-19 provincial cricketers organised by Sri Lanka Cricket commenced yesterday (15) at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. After the four-day training conducted by the coaching staff of SLC, selection matches will be played at Pallekele and Asgiriya. On conclusion of the camp, a squad of 30 players will be shortlisted for future tours this year, namely the Asia Cup (UAE) and Under-19 World Cup (West Indies). A few of this selected pool of players will also be identified for the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which will take place in Hambantota in November.
The 75 players will be grouped into five squads of 15 each playing for Kandy, Western Province North, Western Province South, Dambulla and Southern. As part of the program, four games of T20 matches and 10 one-day matches (50 overs) will be played among these teams.
