The Ritzbury Relay Carnival 2024, an exhilarating three-day competition serving as a platform for Sri Lanka’s rising sports stars to showcase their talents, drew to a close on 4 July at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla.
The prestigious event was a collaborative effort between the Education Ministry and the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association (SLSAA), with Ritzbury serving as the sole sponsor of the sporting extravaganza.
The championship drew over 4,000 young athletes from 220 schools nationwide, resulting in record-breaking performances and inspiring displays of teamwork. The participants competed across various categories, demonstrating skill, unwavering determination, and sportsmanship.
Maris Stella College, Negombo, showcased exceptional talent to clinch the Boys’ overall championship with an impressive 87 points. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, claimed the runner-up position, while St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, secured third place.
In the Girls’ category, Lyceum International School, Wattala, dominated the competition, capturing the overall championship with a noteworthy 120 points. Walala A. Rathnayake C C, Menikhinna, earned a well-deserved second place to finish as the first runner-up. Holy Cross College, Gampaha, secured third place, also cementing their status as a formidable contender in the girls’ athletic arena.
The Ritzbury Relay Carnival 2024 served multiple purposes beyond crowning winners. It highlighted the depth of athletic talent among Sri Lankan youth from various corners of the country, highlighting the wide-ranging diversity of the nation’s sporting future, while building a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.
