Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championships concludes on high note

The 47th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championships concluded its three days of competition in Anuradhapura on 19 October with a number of broken records.

The overall competition, comprising both junior and senior championships during different periods, drew a total participation of over 17,000 athletes. This is the highest ever participation in the history of the oldest and most prestigious schools athletics championship in Sri Lanka.

Ritzbury chocolates from Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL) is the sole sponsor of this annual event for the eighth consecutive year.

Over the three days of competition, spectators at the 47th Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Junior Athletic Championships witnessed a number of superb performances, with multiple new records set.

Yesterday was the final day of the Championships with the award presentation also taking place simultaneously.

Over the course of the tournament, there was a number of new records set, including Naveen Marasinghe from St. Joseph’s College in Colombo setting a record in the Under-15 Boys shot put, T. O. V. Ariyawansa from St. Aloysius College in Ratnapura setting a record in Under-15 Boys 80 metre hurdles, T. D. Shashan Induwara from Kalthota Rohana Vidyalaya in Balangoda setting a record in Under-14 Boys shot put, W. Dinesh Dilshan from St. Mary’s College in Chilaw setting a record in the Under-15 Boys javelin throw, and M. N. N. Raheef from Zahira College in Mawanella set a record in 100 metres.

Meanwhile, D. L. Sewmini Nathali from Ave Maria Convent, Negombo set a record in the Under-15 Girls shot put, and L. M. Shihara Sandamini Silva from Good Shepherd Convent in Panadura set a record in the Under-12 Girls long jump.

Additionally, S. Dahamsa Kahangama from Sumana Balika Vidyalaya in Ratnapura equalled the current record in the Under-15 Girls 80-metre hurdles.
