The 92nd Ritzbury Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship 2024, held from 30 September to 3 October at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, concluded on a high note, with the nation’s top young athletes showcasing their skills and determination.
The event, powered by Ritzbury, a devoted supporter of nurturing Sri Lankan sports, is a celebrated annual affair and once again served as a platform for athletic excellence and sportsmanship.
The championship featured over 5,000 athletes from various schools across Sri Lanka competing in a range of events. The event honoured and celebrated the nation’s youth as the athletes displayed outstanding sportsmanship.
In the Girls’ category, Lyceum International School – Wattala emerged victorious with 182 points, followed by A. Rathnayake Central College – Walala with 147 points, and Ave Maria Convent – Negombo in third place with 77 points. For the Boys, St. Joseph Vaz College – Wennappuwa clinched the championship title with 117 points. The runner-up was St. Benedict’s College – Colombo, who secured 77 points, and in third place Maris Stella College – Negombo received 74 points.
Individual excellence was also recognised, with P.R.A. Dilni Nethsala Rajapaksha from Lyceum International School – Wattala named the ‘Best Athlete of the Year 2024’ for Girls, and Sandun Koshala from Lyceum International School – Wattala honoured as the ‘Best Athlete of the Year 2024’ for Boys.
Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association President Shanthi S. Wijesinghe praised Ritzbury for the enduring support. She said: “Ritzbury’s partnership has been vital in the championship’s growth and success, promoting young athletic achievements and also building unity among communities.”

COO Kamal Geeganage reaffirmed the brand’s dedication towards the development of young talent, adding: “We are proud to support the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship for the 12th consecutive year. Ritzbury believes in the potential of young athletes, and we will continue to champion their success.”
