Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) former President Rizly Ilyas was removed by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Director General of Sports Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva yesterday with a Gazette notification issued.
Speaking, Dr. Amal said: “We did not want to remove him during the Asia Rugby Sevens 2022 which will disturb the players. So, we waited for those to be over. Meanwhile, the suspension on Rizly Ilyas came somewhere in June 2022 by AR.”
Former Isipathana, Air Force and national player Nalin De Silva is likely to take over and run the affairs at SLR.
Sri Lanka lost out opportunities in participating at the Under-18 Seven-a-Side tournament in Nepal and Under-19 Asia Rugby XV, a side event which will take place in Hong Kong during this month.
