The 144th Battle of the Blues between S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and Royal College, Colombo has been rescheduled in view of the Local Government elections.
The long-standing school cricket match which is generally played on 9, 10 and 11 March has been rescheduled to the following weekend.
The Joint Organising Committee said on Friday that the match has been rescheduled due to the Local Government Election being scheduled for the opening day of the match and also to avoid any potential problems.
Issuing a statement to the media, the committee said the match will now be played with spectators on the 16, 17 and 18 of March at the SSC grounds.
“This is due to the announcement that the planned Local Government elections are scheduled to take place on 9 March. The Joint Match Organising Committee in concurrence with the two heads of schools has decided to reschedule the game for the following week,” the Committee further said. The 144th Battle of the Blues is being played after a lapse of two years, to a spectator-filled encounter. S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia is the current holder of the shield after having last regained it in 2018.
