Royal College, Colombo won the annual Under-19 Trinity-Royal hockey encounter, beating their opponents 1-0 at the Asgiriya Stadium under gloomy conditions.

Royal led 1-0 at halftime. With the win, they retained the JCA Corea (former Royal Principal) Trophy for yet another year. Royal continued their winning streak from 2008 and now lead the series with six wins to the Trinitians’ three. G. Malshan scored the only goal of the game. The second half saw an even encounter and true to this narrative no one was able to score.

In the Under-15 encounter Trinity led for most of the game but Royal hit back in the last minute to carve out a 1-1 draw. This match was played for the Paul Jeyaraj Trophy. Jeyaraj was a former hockey coach and Vice Principal at Trinity College.

The Old Boys encounter ended 0-0. This was played for the Late Col Bertie Dias Trophy. Both school players in addition to the Old Boys displayed true sportsmanship on and off the field at this annual encounter. Mrs. Dias graced the occasion and handed out the trophies. The late Col. Berty Dias was a double international in rugby and hockey.
