iFIT is a health and fitness technology company providing a personalised coach, progressive workouts, and an immersive experience, on a single platform. Prior to a name change in 2021 the company was known as ICON Health & Fitness founded in 1977. Its proprietary software is designed to learn and adjust to the habits of each person, and leading towards achieving the individual’s fitness objectives. Distance, speed, heart rate, resistance level, estimated calories, etc. are some of the stats that can be monitored during the workout, and also over time.

iFIT Health & Fitness has over 700 patents globally, of which more than 56% patents are active (iFit.com). Its current base stands over 6.5 million subscribers.

Individual fitness levels vary based on genetics, biomechanics, and health etc. hence this variation can deliver different results to different people for the same workout, timing of workout, diet and workout recovery (NSCA.COM). The variations in test results are too wide to ignore the fact that high levels of customisation, in fitness routine planning, will bring in optimum results to the individual.

iFit trainers remotely control iFit equipment in real time to adjust to conditions such as speed, incline, resistance, and digital weight during live streamed classes. The result is an interactive, touch less workout experience nobody else can deliver.

iFits Active Pulse feature monitors one’s heart rate and adjusts the workout based on the individual’s physiological response to it. Adjustments are made in real time. Many factors affect the heart rate, and these can be: one’s fitness level, sleep, hydration level, use of caffeine, stress, fatigue, temperature and humidity. Since these can change each day, active pulse will take these factors into account when adjusting the workout. This intelligent training will prevent overtraining and helps to reach a plateau in one’s fitness level. Overtraining Syndrome (OTS) can lower one’s fitness level, negatively affect performance, and cause injuries.

iFit CEO Kevin Duffy is intent on making the brand the ‘most effective fitness platform’ in the world. Duffy claims its content is unique and compelling, its pro ‘destination fitness’ approach ensures that one can ‘walk along the Cliffs of Moher with an Olympian in Ireland’.

iFit claims it has content across every geography, all seven continents, and was even nominated for an Emmy for its Mt. Everest climb. Some other examples of workout scenarios are, rowing the Thames on a rower, cycling by Kyoto’s temples, the Boston marathon, to the mountains of New Zealand etc. These are just some of the iconic experiences iFits unique experiential content emulates. iFit claims its interactive content is the most compelling in the industry, with productions shot on-location in over 50 countries and eight languages, with Emmy award-winning talent and directors. The programs are interactive and multi-sensory, either live or on-demand, and adapted to mobile phone, tab or TV app etc. Duffy is intent on differentiating iFit via these ‘habit formation’ techniques which makes each individual’s fitness journey highly personalised, hence achievable.
