Action from last year encounter between St. Anthony’s College and St. Joseph College at Havies
The Eagles, St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota, will face-off last season’s runners up St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, in the season open of Dialog Rugby League 2023 at Bogambara Grounds in Kandy from 4 p.m. onwards today.
In the 2022 season of the Dialog Schools Rugby League, the Eagles fared poorly by winning only one game in the entire season, while the boys from Darley Road had a good outing coming second only to the Green Machine, Isipathana College, Colombo, who had a perfect season.
On 16 June Vidyartha College, Kandy will take on Science College, Mt. Lavinia, while the Thomians will scrum down against Wesley College, Colombo at Mt. Lavinia on the next day.
The biggest clash of the week will take place between arch rivals St. Peter’s College, Colombo vs the boys from Reid Avenue, Royal College, Colombo on 17 June at Bambalapitiya. Royal College who missed the title last year due to unforced errors and disciplinary issues will be looking for a strong season with their customary forward play, while the boys from Bambalapitiya who had a dismal season last year will be gunning for the league title under the watchful eyes of master tactician and Coach Sarath Martis.
The third game on 17 June will be between Dharmaraja College, Kandy and Trinity College, Kandy at Bogambara Grounds, while the following day at the same venue Kingswood College will take on last year’s champs Isipathana College, Colombo.

In addition to the season opener, the Dialog Schools Rugby League has an exciting line-up of matches scheduled in the lower divisions. The first matches in the Division A Segment B is set to take place on 16 June between Mahanama College and St. Benedict’s College at the Airforce grounds while St. Aloysius’ College will face off Lumbini College at Koggala grounds and Thurstan College will face off Central College Piliyandala at the Thurstan Grounds from 4.15 p.m. onwards respectively
Furthermore, the league will feature matches in Division 1 Segment C, Division 2, and Division 3 starting from 26 June onwards. It promises to be a season filled with intense competition and a platform for young rugby players to showcase their raw talent.
