SAJAC 2018: Sri Lanka end number 2 behind India

Sri Lanka Junior Athletes ended the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship at second place, behind India. The Sri Lankan youngsters won 12 gold medals with outstanding records, National Junior records and IAAF World Junior Championship qualifying points at this event which took place last weekend at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.

India dominated to win 20 gold, 22 silver and 8 bronze while Sri Lanka ended the event with 12 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze.

Sri Lanka skipper, Aruna Dharshana (Weera Keppetipola MV, Akuramboda) won 3 gold medals and was involved in two records being broken. Kandy was proud to see Swarnamali Girls’ School’s Amasha de Silva winning 4 gold medals with three records, and Rathnayake Central Walala’s Dilshi Kumarasinghe set two records, one National Junior record and reached qualifying standards for the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in 800 meters. She won 3 gold medals at this event.

Pakistan ended third while Bangladesh grabbed 4th position at this event.
